The Wicklow senior football manager John Evans will have three new selectors working with him in 2018 after Steven Cushe, Brian Heaslip and Leighton Glynn were all named lately as part of the Kerry natives backroom team.
Cushe was a great servant to Wicklow football both as a player and mentor. Having already taken charge of the under 21 team in the past the Coolkenno man is well thought of. He has been managing at club level in Wexford and Carlow in the past couple of years.
Brian ‘Gino’ Heaslip was manger of Baltinglass and was a former inter county player with Dublin and a member of the St Annes club in Bohernabreena before moving to Baltinglass. He is seen as a cshrewd and professional individual who is a solid reader of the game.
Leighton Glynn fresh from Rathnew’s great season will bring plenty of enthusiasm and he will have a better in sight than most of the players in the squad having played against most of them in the very recent past.
Hurling manager Seamus Murphy has added Carnew man Timmy Collins and Glenealy’s Michael Anthony O’Neill to his set up where they will join him and coach Michael Neary. Both had long careers at club and county level winning a number of major honours along the way. They both possess a winning mentality that made them two fierce competitors on the field and they will demand the same from the players.
Excellent appointments all-round and plenty of reason for optimism in 2018.
