BALTINGLASS LADIES WIN FIRST ALL IRELAND 7S LADIES ADULT TITLE
Baltinglass Ladies won Wicklow’s first Ladies All Ireland 7s Ladies Adult title in great style last Saturday in Naomh Mearnog GAA grounds Portmarnock.
Teams from Wicklow have taken part in this competiton over the years and have performed very well with An Tochar and Arklow Geraldines reaching finals over the years. But history was to be written on Saturday when the ladies from the West club won the title for the first time. On their way to the title they beat An Garda (Dublin), Iniskeen (Monaghan) and Maynooth (Kildare) in final.
The final itself was a very exciting one with scores going at each end at a frantic rate. Baltinglass got a great start in final and led by 4-3 to 1-1 at half time. The second half was a much tighter affair with both teams beginning to feel the effects of a long day of games in summer like conditions. But it was the Baltinglass team who finished the stronger and won on a score of 7-6 t 3-3.
Great celebrations followed the final whistle and again when Pat Quill Ladies GAA President presented the All Ireland Intermediate Trophy to Captain Sarah Jane Winder. Lucy Cushe
was awarded player of the final and was presented a limited edition ladies 7 A Side jersey by sponsors Tesco.
The panel who represented Baltinglass on the day was Sarah Jane Winder, Lucy Cushe, Ciara Hennessy, Helena Dowling, Kelly Keane, Sarah Fennelly, Chloe Farrell, Catherine Dempsey, Hanna Dowling, Marie Kealy, Paula Faulkner and Emma Byrne.
Well done girls on a great achievement on bringing back a first All Ireland Club Title back to the club since 1990 and with most players under 20 on the team the future looks bright for the girls in white and green.
