The Wicklow County Under 14 Camogie Finals were held in glorious sunshine on Saturday. The venue was Aughrim Community Pitch and over 140 girls took part in this feast of U14 Camogie. 4 Finals in all were lined up with the first match starting at 11am.
Referees Aisling McCabe, Katie Mundow and Niamh Donnelly as well as umpires and other officials and County Board Officers ensured the smooth running of the day with Start times and Presentations Ceremonies on time throughout the day.
Aughrim Camogie Club operated a shop which was very welcome. This was a great day of Camogie with 4 well contested matches and top class exponents of the game on view for the big crowd in attendance. Co Squad players were there in great numbers across 7 of the 8 teams involved. All 4 games were played at a pace which was amazing in the high temperatures and the girls involved gave it everything. This was highly competitive Camogie all the way with high skill levels across all teams. It was clear to all there that these girls enjoy their sport and are dedicated and keen to play. The bulk of the mentors present on the day clearly understand their job. The only note of caution goes to the small number of Adults present who take themselves too seriously on the line and overlook the fact that the players on the pitch are actually Under 14 and should be respected as such. These girls take their Camogie and their matches seriously and should be allowed enjoy them.
Playing all Finals together proved to be a another innovative success from Wicklow County Camogie Board following on the success of the County U16 Finals earlier in the season and surely something which should be repeated in future years.
