Wicklow hurlers started their year with a win over Down in Bray yesterday in the Keogh Cup. Conditions were cold and wet but Wicklow led from early and despite some nervous moments near the end they held out to set up a match with DCU this weekend.
Evergreen Bosco was unusually in goals as he comes back from injury and so free duties fell to Andy O’Brien. The St. Pats corner forward also bagged the all important goal which proved decisive.
Down were missing main man Paul Branniff but Wicklow were short a few as well as Casey experimented. Jim Connors played centre forward and Mickey Lee & Christy Moorehouse joined Andy O’Brien in the full forward line.
Wicklow meet DCU on Sunday at 2pmin Bray.
