Blessington Club Notes

On Tues 27th March the sad news broke of the passing of our dear friend, colleague and Club President Pete Nolan. Immediately everything in the club was cancelled training and matches and the Tricolour flew at half mast for the week. Pete had been sick for a while but he never let it get to him, no he still worked away in Topaz, enjoyed his beloved family life, sold his club lotto tickets, attended club meetings, attended forum and hall meetings, collected at the gate in Blessington and Aughrim, yes that was the man Pete was he didn’t let his sickness stop him from carrying on with life as best he could. Pete was a true gentleman who helped everyone that joined Blessington GAA & welcomed everyone in to the community, normally by buying a ticket. In Tallaght hospital Pete always had time for a chat wanting the match details of all club teams & checking had we collected on the games. In Jack Boothman’s tribute to Pete he commented on various fundraising that the club held and yes Pete sold the most tickets and always spoke about cutting expenditure that is how we have a fantastic grounds, Pete Nolan will never be forgotten in Blessington GAA Club. On Sunday in Aughrim as Wicklow played Leitrim, there was a familiar face missing at the turnstile, but in his honour the tricolour flew at half mast and there was a minute silence for Pete as everyone recalled their memories. Thanks to everyone involved with the guard of honour which was very much deserved for Pete  from present and past players & club officers. Members of Croke Park & Pete’s family were over whelmed by the amount of Juveniles who lined the streets for their beloved president Pete, the respect that each child had standing so quietly, they were a credit to the club, their family & themselves. Pete got a great and well deserved send off and I think even he would have been stuck for words, Pete you may be gone but you certainly will never be forgotten in Blesssington Community,Blessington GAA,Wicklow GAA & Croke Park. We extend our deepest sympathy to Nora,Emma,Paul,Peter,Sinead,Massie,Alice, his granchildren & all his relatives Ar dheis go raibh an anam dilis. As a mark of respect Blessington GAA Club Lotto which was due to be held on Tuesday 3rd April will now take place on Tuesday 10th April in The West Wicklow.
